2 days ago, i was making a home-made firecracker and i accidentally blew it up in my face while i was crushing the gunpowder. i had to go to the hospital in an ambulance and was given morphine and some other drug. my face still hurts like crazy and my lips are already starting to peel. i have first degree burns on my face and left hand, and i have second degree burns on my neck and my right hand. i no longer have eyebrows\eyelashes and i have scabs covering the inside of my nose making it almost impossible to breathe through it. lesson learned: never make your own firecrackers without saftey precausions and next time i do it outside.
oh yeah when i was in the hospital, i had to pi$$ really bad but they wouldn't let me go to the washroom so i had to pi$$ in a small metal urinal that i almost filled to the top.
NEVER TRY THIS IT WAS REALLY UNFUN!

Wow, that doesn't sound like very much fun. :-(
What, exactly, were you trying to make, a m-80? Well, thats why I never experiment (too much) with explosives.

Well, next time you should just take better safety precautions and maybe actually listen to stuff they say over in chem class :).
Back in Russia I used to make some vicked bad-arse firecrackers and other stuff. I'd kinda love to tell all the stuff I used to do but that would be a good idea to do that on the forum.

i wasn't trying to make a specific size firecracker. i just wanted one that ws big enough to make a huge noise. so i took a D-12 size model rocket engine and i cut it open and took the black part out and started to crush it up when it exploded. i had it in a film canister and after i was done crushing it, i was going to wrap it in alot of duct tape and put a wick in the top but i obviously never got that far. i did make 2 smoke bombs though without any trouble. my face is about 75% healed already it's just the lips and the inside of my nose that still has to heal. and my hands too.

That was uncalled for...

Anyway, my chem teacher told me a (somewhat unrelated) story. Back in the day, they had those really long tables. He was at one end, and his friend at the other. None of the chemicals were locked up, so they, as somewhat experienced chemists, started doodling with them. his friend was crushing some red phosphorous (similar to the stuff on the ends of matches) with a mortar and pestel. Next thing my chem teacher knows, he hears a BANG! and he sees the mortar (that's the thing you crush with, right?) fly past his head and hit the corner behind him, *all the way across the room*!! Meanwhile, the pestel (bowl?) was gone except for the small platter that makes up the bottom. I don't think the friend got hurt too bad, but there's a lession: don't try to crush phosphorous!!

another strange, related story:

Someone was having a contest to see who could light a grill the fastest. Some idiots decided to use liquid oxygen. Simply put...

Bad idea.

The grill instantly melted as the oxygen was lit. I don't think anyone was hurt.

Personally, I love stories where things blow up.
