I'm sorry, but what does getting a car have anything to do with games for an ipod...

Oh, wait, yeah, you're thinking about getting iPod...well, you should get one for music, not games.

i like music quiz, because it's like a game, but it also relates to all your music. I have like 2 gigs of flash memory for PDA's though, so that covers most of my music needs.

Yes, iPods have a few crappy games. They have breakout and something else (you'll look really frisky touching your iPod like mad trying to move that paddle...). Tho, solitaire isn't that bad at all but playing with tough dial is not very cnvenient. If you're looking at iPod mini then have a look at the latest mp3 player from Creative Labs instead. Its smaller, has more storage, cheaper and looks better (Zen Micro). I can't say whether or not iPod have a better sound since Apple was kind enough not to say the freq. responce of their player. Btw since I work as a computer tech now, we also deal with warranty repairs on other hardware and quite frankly iPods are the most common sight only other mp3 players that join them are some offbrand ones. That's kinda sad to see knowing the high prices on iPods. If you've got some extra cash, iRiver's new portable entertainment center is a really cool toy to have.

Btw, Sony's new HD network walkman seems like a good buy. It's very small for its 20GB and one of the few players with G-sensor which can retract HDD heads from the plates when it senses shock. Tho, Sony didn't post any tech specs so I can't tell how good the sound it. Also, Sony being itself have this little player very overpriced.

I also work at a computer tech store. And all I see coming in are mainly Rio players and raelly cheap flash ones. You also have to remember, around 80% (either of hard drive or all mp3 players) of the market is owned by Apple. Of course you'll see theirs a lot, but I have heard of a few ipod problems from friends. IMO, the portable entertainment centers are too big, on both the Linux and WinCE one.

If you want an mp3 player with features, definately look at what iRiver or maybe even Creative offers. But the iPod has a nice design, really convenient interface, and the scrolling wheel is far better than any other imitation touch design competitors have, like that cross on Zens.

I wouldn't go with the Sony HD-1, last I checked it only supports Atrac3, not mp3, so you have to convert all however many gigs of music you have. And 20 gigs for 500 dollars is far overpriced.

I doubt you would look frisky whil touching your ipod playing breakout, it's pretty sensitive, so you only need to use your thumb a bit.

The new Sony players will support both mp3 and Altrac3 formats. Release date for them in the US is in like January 2005, I think.

Well, I don't know how large your music library is, but I got a 20 gigger dell dj a year ago, and I now have ~5gb left, and I feel constrained. (I like having lots of redundant space)

Needless to say, I'll be selling it next spring and getting at least a 40+gb player, possibly an iPod, but more likely a creative one of some type.

Hell if i'm getting a dell....(whoa... i didn't even mean to make a rhyme...) like... my school is fill with tones of dells... y? because they're cheep! y? becuase they suck! i'm in a pool league where if u do well enought... u can win a dell computer.... dell computer's r cheep enough to donate to leagues like this... personally i see all sorts of mp3 players out there but it seems like the ipod is the most used, seems like it has the most space, and is most dependable.

>>seems like it has the most space

I beg to differ, Creative has a 60gigger, Here

Also, check out the posts by S and Z, they seem to say that the iPod is not as reliable as you think, and from what I've read, that seems to be the case in some situations.

Links for Creative and iRiver

HP/Compaq are much worse than Dell if you look at reliability and such...
60gigger looks nice, but i don't even want to look at the price of that thing. besides, how many people do you know who actually have a 60gigs worth of music? if this thing was playing movies, i'd understand but just music? as with iriver media center, this thing is really small and flat (i was quite surprised). its about as flat as normal ipod, about as wide as height of a regular ipod and about 1.5 widths of ipod hight. if not the $500 cost of that toy, which it probably well worth, i'd get myself one. tho, i can't justify spending 500 bucks for a toy to just play movies and music. oops, this got a bit off topic.
again, ipod specs don't show any real technical info such as s/n ratio and that sort of stuff. creative's players have decent s/n but iriver beats them. i myself stick with iriver producst because they're top notch and prices are also fair.

yeah... 60 gigs is a bit much for me... 20 is all i need.... i've looked up on all the things u guys have said... i've had my eye on this hp ipod for a while but this iriver is lookin real nice to me... i like that it's made for pc's only and that it works with wmp rather than itunes.... i've got most my music converted to mp3 but still have a few in wma so it'll just be nice and an extra 4 hours of battery life isn't bad either.... but will it let me just like play everything on random shuffle? that's the only thing i don't see that i'd really want lol... that might be a stupid question but hey... ya never know... so yea.... i think that iriver looks like the thing for me =D, though i'd still like to hear from u guys.... i could still be missin somethin lol

Here's my opinion...

DO NOT GET AN IPOD!

They're way too expensive compared to other models that are exactly the same.

For example, a 40GB iPod costs $500, while a Creative Nomad Jukebox with the same capacity costs just $300.

A 20GB Rio costs $300, while the Nomad is double the capacity for the same price.

hm.... don't mean to break an old tread back to life, but just wanted to say i ended up going with an iriver, it's pretty sweet, thanks for the advice. my computer since then has died. it's be having problems for a while. i managed to get most if not all my music on the iriver, and a few other files as well. my calc also managed to reinstall it self in the middle of class one day so i lost all my files on that too, and w/o my computer i can't restore it.... and since the comptuer itself is most likely gana need to be reformated, i'm prob not gana get my calc files back either.... but o well.... atleast christmas is only a couple days away! =P

Good choice mate! The iRiver jukebox is very nice and has awesome sound quality as you can probably tell. You also get more features for a lower price than you'd with ipod. My mp3 player is my palm pilot :) which pretty much stays in my car all the time...
