apparently i got nominated for some national forum on technology thing... (i already forgot the exact name)... apparently, it works like this: 1. get nominated 2. pay $2500 3. fly to california for 10 days, see san francisco, hope you get spotted by a talent scout for a tech company 4. go home

does anyone know anything about this? i was hoping for some input before i scrape $2500 out of the old chewing gum in my room to go... need input from smart people here...

You haven't really given enough details and I'm probably wrong but you might want to make sure its not a scam

well, it has something to do with taking the PSAT... and there are 9 or so people from my school who have attended in the past... (it tells you their names)... all i have to do is find them...

gonna wait for dads input on this... the one thing i actually ask him this year probably...

and that was a compressed version in the first post... you actually get lab time, get to see speakers (steve jobs spoke one year, stuff like that)

$2500 sound awfully a lot for a 10 day trip like that... You should definitely find out more detail about the thing or try calling their phone and ask a bunch of questions. This could be a scam or not be worth your monetary investment.

Actually, I got that too. :)

Though, that's all the way across the country for me. So probably not.

you got one too? do you know anything about it? im in NC, so its a 4.5 hour plane ride there...

if i can get the money, im going to go... heck, if you go, we might actually meet each other... (their schedule has lots of open lab time... yippee)

their site is at nylf.org

they apparently do several different types, technology is just one... heres a quote about the technology forum...

"National Youth Leadership Forum on Technology
Participants get a behind-the-scenes look at the many facets of the technology field in this integrated curriculum that includes group work and individual interests, workshops, seminar sessions, roundtable discussions, campus visits and encounters with tech industry professionals"

That'd be about a 30 minute drive for me, had I gotten accepted (I opted out of taking the PSAT this year, for stress-related reasons)

I got a similar offer from a future leader's and government-related one. Was a trip to washington DC. I didn't go mainly because i had spent 4k+ on a Europe trip, but some people I know did go, and they said it was ok.

I got one too Alex. Just 3 days ago, actually. I looks awesome, but its really far, and financial aid is probably gone by now.

[EDIT] I think I got the DC one spiral was talking about, too. It's called "National Student Leadership Conference". I got that like a month ago.

And yes, the NYFL gets info from the college board, usually depending on what you put for your career/major/interests.
