I agree... there should be a note at the bottom of each post if/when it's been edited....... I'm not so sure that editing a comment should make the topic unread, though. Yes, the reader might miss some information, but I think the cons outweigh the pros there (annoying, for example).

You're really making progress on the new forum. Good job, though I can't help but wonder where those post counts came from.

From the old forum. They merged it with this forum a week or so ago.

There are several possible explanations.

1.) Not all forums were moved... only the bigger ones.
2.) Neither the old nor new forums subtract posts from the count when they are deleted, however, posts from the old forum that were deleted were not counted.
3.) It's also possible that I just lowered your number of posts to make you angry.

Something you might consider:

Show so many posts per page, this would eliminate the need for locking a topic.

Add a vertical break for those that have signatures. This would clean up the posts a little bit, since I keep reading the sigs with the rest of the post, kind of annoying.

Maybe a preview post button?

Is there even a need for another one right now? Ignoring the fact that there isn't a large number of people here at this point in time, it's highly unlikely that Jc and XX will really be gone for very long. B and L are here. Besides, moderators usually either posess knowledge relevant to topics discussed in the moderated forum or have, in some way, contributed significantly to it.

If there is an opening, though, I have plenty of free time to help out around CG. *coughs in the direction of Nikky's PM inbox, which contains a 7-month-old request*

Also, no offense, but I think there are some more qualified people than you.

Edit: So no word on why I can't lock/move topics?

Edit2: I meant people who have can type properly and have a pretty good knowledge of calcs. I have noticed that since we moved to the new forum most people have been typing better, save a few misspellings.

True that 3fg

Site Sugestion's:
1. If possible add a spell checker (Mostly for me)
2. Can you guys set up a flag thing like on the old fourms. Where new posts have a diffrent icon then old ones. Or better put so when it says that here are new posts in a topic. People can tell witch ones are new and witch ones they have already read. If some one else knows what im taalking about and can better put it please do.

Would it be better if on the main Board pages, instead of automatically displaying the most recent topics for each forum, it had a link like "-Show Recent Topics-" that could be automatically expanded? It would be javascript so it wouldn't require any extra page loading... it would make things more compact on the home page, but it would require you to do a little extra work to see recent topics.

Any thoughts?

I'm definitely in favor of Barret's suggestion. When relying on nothing but bolded text, one is encouraged to respond upon viewing recent posts instead of first being able to wait a small while.

It'd only respawn in another form, e.g. "Forum Improvements". May as well keep it, unless we get multiple pages going. (hint hint)

Ok, now you can show/hide recent topics on the main board pages... it shows 10 instead of 4 now.

Edit: if you have starred topics, they will still be displayed automatically... I figure that the whole purpose of having a topic starred is so that you see it quickly when you visit the forum

It should remember if you have a forum shown/hidden. It's annoying, entering a topic with new posts, then going back to the main page, then having to unhide topics AGAIN just to look at the others with new posts.

And no, I will not just go into the forum itself to save you all the hassle of coding this in.

Well, maybe I will.

Actually, I like it this way. There's a smaller number of lines to check for boldness on the main page.

Barret: After replying to a multi-paged topic, it brings you back to the first page.

Right now, since all of the topics are hidden by default it makes the board seem empty. Perhaps three of the latest topics should be shown by default and have a "list more" link instead of "show recent topics?"

Well, the whole point of doing this was to make the home page less cluttered. I'll try to work on a few preferences that people can set to customize the board home pages.

after I reply to a multi-page topic it brings me back to the last page... after editting a comment, you're right, it goes back to the first page.

I like the new home page to the forum it looks a lot less cluttered. I would like to suggest that there is a option to show only the last 30 days, 60 days, and so on once you enter a topic, kind of like we had in the old fourm that way we don't have to see all of the topics in the forum but only the last 30 days or so.

Since the new "compressed" version was set as default, forum posts have dropped significantly.
