I dont want this topic to get out of hand or deleted. so no bashing or insulting, save it for the war thread.

Whats your personal view on the wars going on in the middle east? Do you believe we invaded Iraq for its oil behiind a sheet of liberty? Do you think the soldiers are dieing needless deaths?

these are just some of the topics i've talked with my roommate recently, who happens to be a ARMY footsoldier. Personally, i believe that we should have never have put ourselfs into this war (and its not Bush's fault. if you remember from your eight grade class, Congress must approve war, not the president. all Bush can do is send the marines where he wishes, and it takes more than the marines to take out a country), but now that we are in the battle, we should support our troops, for with out our support, our troops will die with no one but their familes crying for them. that is wrong. Protesters are good before a war, but not during, they creat more havic than we need. It makes me sad when people put all the blame on one individual for our problems. Clinton was blamed for our tax deficit, Hoover for the great depression, and Bush for the war. Whats sad is people can say that easily but dont know one thing on how the government works:

People blame the Pres when we are given bad info (WOMD) when HE is given the information. Like they expect him to actually be in the field looking for WOMDs and said "they must be here!". He, like many other countrys, is a figure head who does very little when it comes to what and how our country does something. Its sad when people cant pass a constitution test and think they now what they are talking about, attacking the Pres. And the other countries act the same way.

But on the flip side, presidents are awarded for doing something good when they arent really the ones who did it. President Bush has lowered the unemployment rate, when its not really him who did it. its his people under him.

The president seat has got to be the most stressful job on the planet. Either people are going to like you or hate you. its sad.

Actually, all you need is the Marines to take out a country.

And my personal view is that troops are just doing their jobs. Some of us disagree with the war, but we do it anyways.

which is true. alot of troops hate what they are doing. they just have a job to do. i doubt highly that vets "love" to put animals down, but it is their job.

Uh oh.

I won't. I'll just say that I do not support the war. Whether I support the troops, they being the ones fighting the war for the <expletives> government (I'm not too fond of government, US or otherwise), I have never really given it much thought.

Edit
ryantmer: Basically, supporting the troops can mean as little as making sure that they come out alive. :)

Personally, I think all wars are pretty stupid. I also dislike the gov't. But I can assure you that I do feel that there's no easy way to end this mess, and pointing fingers isn't going to help. All we can do is have some sort of faith in our leaders (though they may be monkeys) and help out our troops as much as we can.

Ah. Well, in that case I do support them, in the hope-they-do-come-out-alive sense.

This is a difficult question but many companies benefit from this, not to mention various military officials. War needs all these supplies and equipment, somebody makes those and it's in their interest for the war to last longer. As with the reason, I think it's mixed since Bush is stupid and he actually thinks he can make democracy in an extreme religious country and the people there were raised in such a way. It may sound wrong, but they simplay do not understand such a concept. And that's not mentioning lots of religious related tensions from their many sects. Bush think he can just go and make democracy there, that's a joke, and terrible waste of resources which could have been put to other use. As with oil, I doubt they're just going to take it but they were thinking if they have democracy in Iraq it will cost them less to import and this sort of thing. Like I said above, people's mentality is a huge thing. Take Russia for instance, people there while being religious, they're not that extreme and democracy could work in there, but in their case it created lots of inequality and when people see that those who can't adjust well very much dislike if not hate it. That's why lost of younger coller students and elderly people want communism back and like Stallin. Another problem is that there are power hungry politicians who take advantage of people's ignorance and feed them bs. Hence, you get people likeing Putin (I like how he nominate his successor, and people still think they're having an election...err a real election w/t fake counts and all), Stallin, Saddam, Bin Laden and all this scum and for what; for many reasons people with common sense and some education can answer this.
Just to make this clear, I don't have anything against religious people or Muslims or anything in this general category, this is just my opinion but think about it while setting aside your personal beliefs for a moment.

What you said about companies is true. Me being an engineer, i can get better jobs while we are at war. If i get a job, i can buy stuff, and the people i buy stuff from will get money, and buy stuff from others, and so on, and it all helps out the econ. But if we arent in war, there is no need for alot of engineers, and we dont buy stuff, and the other people cant buy stuff either... its a viscious circle, and then people will blame the president for not having a good econ plan. So no matter what he does, he gets blamed. Its either war&money or peace&poor, to put it bluntly.

Yeah, war is the engine of progress. Just like it was during and after WWI and WWII. This is sad but true and apparently war is one of the things that human beings like and do best so the new developments coming with the war is nothing new and have been so for thousands of year. You're right about the pres, not like he makes all the decisions himself anyway, that's why he has all these positions in various fields. He just gets all the crap since he's top responsible person. Sad but true...
