Hey I am just getting used to my calculator and I have downloaded games and every thing was going well until I went to install ION onto my computer and it said ERR:ARCHIVED what does that mean and how can I fix it. I would love your help. Thanks. Kate :img13:

I assume you're using the 83+, because thats the only one with ION and archive.

The 83+/SE, along with most calculators has to memorys, the RAM (Random access memory) and the ROM (Archive). To make it short, a program can't be ran when it's in the archive when you use the prgm menu.

To fix your problem, if the program you're trying to run has a * by it, it's archived, use the 2nd+(catalog) and goto Unarchive, then press enter, then find the archived program (the one with the * by it) and put it on the same line after the unarchive command. Press enter. Now it should work.

Ex:
Unarchive prgmFUDD

You need to unarchive the three Ion files required to install it on your calculator. I believe they are ION, IONZ, and ZINFO or something like. (I seriously am not sure, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.) Follow what allyn said for unarchiving them.

Yes, heres all you have to do, in 4 easy steps:

1) 2nd +
2) 2
3) 1
4) Hit enter to get rid of the *stars* for everything!

A * means that program is archived.
An archived program just means that when you clear your RAM, they won't go away.

well, yes thats one side-effect of an archived program is that they don't get deleted. Actually, the archive is 'Flash Memory'...which is a litle more complicated.

Don't use ION, it uses up RAM space which could be used to hold more games... Get MirageOS instead, it's better, and doesnt take up RAM. You can get it at www.ticalc.org

Yes, it does use up about 500bytes of RAM, but no game is so large that the last 500 bytes of ION will affect it. Besides, after you install ION, you can delete prgmION.

Actually, games like Dying Eyes only leave about 300-400 ram ...

There's a new shell, called CrunchOS that allows you to compress programs (like on the 89 with TIct's PPG compression). Btw, ppg compression is very impressive, winzip has pretty much nothing to comperss. Haven't tried crunchy though, it's an app like mirage.
