I have noticed a lot of programs/games in the archives here at Calcgames.org that really have no point in being there. At least one of the following conditions applies to them:
1) They don't work
2) They have not been beta-tested and therefore have more bugs than lines of programming.
3) They are a repeat of a previously posted prog that does the same thing for less memory.

Anyone else notice that?

EDIT: Tell me if you think my signature is inappropriate anyone.

not many calculator games are beta-tested. Point me out some of your examples.

your sig is crude, but i'll leave it to the other admins to decide if it's inappropriate.

So? ticalc.org's been like that for years, and everybody loves ticalc.org.

I agree, there are some real useless programs; not only here, but also on ticalc.org. I, too, can't name specific ones, but I certainly remember repeated programs and programs that basically have the same substance as others.
One I found on ticalc.org that was REALLY dumb was a polynomial converter. Basically you put a polynomial in list form and it gives you the polynomial that you're supposed to manually put into a Y-var using a string. For example, putting in {1,2,3,4} gives you 1X^3+2X^2+3X+4. You could type it in faster than you could use the program!

Good song, BTW. :headphones:

Some people may think my games are dull (these are people spoiled by ASM games), but I go through all my games and check to make sure there is almost none to no bugs at all(usually the latter).

I make games I think are fun. It's not fun if it's got bugs, It's lame.

exploiting bugs is fun. For example, buying drugs for negative money.

I'd agree that there are a lot of useless programs but don't forget that 'useful' is something that varies from person to person and something that may not be useful to you may be really useful to someone else. I remember at one time ticalc wanted to not include programs they don't like but as we can see that didn't quite work out. Basically, sites that have file submissions that anyone can use would have to accept most files that at least meet content guidelines. Adding files by preference would most likely have many offended and since most people that program for calc use basic, that can potentially be a good number of people. Sites that only add prefered programs usually don't have user submissions and add files at their own discretions and likes. That was admins can maintain their desired archive quality level and still not get anyone unhappy with their choice. People who get their programs on such sites usually stand out more since admins have added their program but here its more up to the downloaders to decide. As we can see we have good and bad programs and downloads/ratings do not necessarily tell us how good a file is. I'd love to have a separate admin rating to give users a better idea of each files' quality but we can not do that since ratings must be anonymous. Admins are here to control the site and users are here to choose what they like.

We could however devise some kind of system to gauge each files overall quality that'd be based on DL/Day ratios, ratings overalls and review overalls (there could also be a hidden admin rating bonus or reduction). If you have any ideas, feel free to post them here and I'll be happy to discuss them.

EDIT: Yeah lunch, you sig is funny but its a bit off the hook. If you want you keep keep it for a little bit so that people can laugh but please replace it with something of non-downstairs nature asap. Thanks.

EDIT 2: Haha, 83+ Black Edition? I've never heard of that! Sounds like TI is getting more and more creative every day. lol
