Morgan is an expert at this, and has written some detailed guides at ticalc.org. I suggest you take a look. I think they are in the informational texts section of the archives.

use the program CalcCapture, available on ticalc.org, in conjunction with VTI.

I can't get the Dump Rom to work er something like that, Rom Dumper, it won't work. I run it on my calculator and it sez error
syntax error.

If you have a TI-Graph Link and DOS or Windows:

Download and unzip romdump2.zip. - i got that

Send rom83.83p (included with romdump2.zip) to your TI-83. - i did that

Link your TI-83 to your computer. - i did that

Run romdump.exe (included with romdump2.zip) on your computer. I ran the romdump.exe, but it just closed right away...

Run the ROM dumper on your calculator. Your TI-83's ROM will be dumped to a file on your computer. - didn't get to that

in the readme file, there is a list of file sizes for each type of Calc.

so you type it in exactly the way it asks... for example:
romdump TI83DUMP XXXXXXXX COM3

It sez it's not a recognizable

C:\DOCUME~1\Jon>romdump TI83DUMP 262144 COM1
'romdump' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I know nothing of computers...

Jonny, I have two questions. a) What like cable are you using and b) are you trying to dump a "TI-83", or a "TI-83+"?

You can't dump the ROM if you only have the Silverlink USB cable. Only the serial and parralell links work.

If you have the Silver link cable that connects to the USB port on your computer, you cannot do a rom dump. You need either the parallel link cable, which is a handmade cable that splices a cut up small calc-calc link into the parallel (printer) port on your computer. It's the big long plug in the back with a whole bunch of holes in it. The other option is the serial link, which is sold by TI and links into the serial port on the back of your computer (looks like parallel port, but not as long).

Although you may have used your silver cable to transfer programs to or from your calculator, it cannot be used for the rom dump. I am not sure if this is simply because no one has written a program to dump from the usb cable (which i suspect), or if it has to do with some technological limitation (which i doubt).

TILP allows the dumping of roms with the USB link. However only rom versions 1.12 or lower will work with VTI 2.5 which is the emulator you are most likely want to be using.

There would be no point, no emulator works for the 84 series.

You can already download the 84 rom from TI. That is what you are downloading when you get the new OS when they come out. I am fairly sure that the Flash Debugger which comes with its own emulator will work with the 84 series, right now that would be your only option.

Don't give your hopes up. I think the whole community is waiting for this unholy God related emulator that will emulate and Rom version for any calc and support all, asm/flash/basic with linking and the works...however we are all in denail.

for the mean time the flash debugger emaultor will emulate everything you need.

If you were able to take pics, how would you be able to get Mirage OS or other systems like that onto the Virtual TI, so you can take pics of like Mario, or something like that.

With version 2.5 you can take pics of Mario just by lading Ion, Mario, and the cooresponding levels you needed. The same would work for the TI Flash Debugger Emulator.

For Version 3.0 of VTI you need to make a rom dump of your calculator with the files already installed on yur calculator that you will need to use since it only allows the installation of APPS and no other files. Other files will run if they are already included in the rom dump.

If you need some screenshots made, ust send me the program and I can make up some pretty spiffy ones for you.

And this goes out to everyone, if you want your program screenshotted with the "POTY Winner" border on it, I'd be glad to do that too for a small donation fee :-)

Here ya go! I got them on the site too:

http://www.calcgames.org/cgi-bin/files/files.cgi?ID=786. As far as me dying on the first, in my defense I was trying to play on an emualtor which is somewhat more difficult.

As far as that fee I was talking about. That would be for these types of screenshots.

Morgan, you are amazing...
How do you do that? Is there a bug for it? I still don't understand the whole rom dump thing. I did it once and never botehred with it again. I don't get how to get Mirage on there. I never used ION, so I dunno about that either. I can't get like Mirage onto the VTI.

I used VTI 2.5 and the Ion shell. Something weird happened in that it would only let me send 2 of the 4 files to the emulator, thus the two I emulated.

Where can you get this VTI 2.5 and Ion Shell. How do you get the ion shell in the calculator in the first place?

Yes Ion is not a flash APP. go to the programs list and run 'prgmIon' then after it says installed go back to the program menu and run 'prgmA' which will start the shell if there are programs on the calc for Ion.

Neither version of VTI allows sending both Applications and Variables to the calculator. 2.5 can send variables; 3.0 can send Apps. If you want to play MirageOS games, you have to either use TiLem or the FLASH Debugger.
