There are few things that get me really rilled up nowandays... (ASM vs BASIC, stupid people, and disrespect) Now there is something that came to my attention earlier today... Kevin has "temporaryly" shut down Omnimaga due to the fact that people have generally disregarded the rules there and have made an arua of "disrespect" towards Kevin's great controbution to the community! Now he's threatining to leave and take ALL his files (not just on Omnimaga but everywhere!) with him! Is this really what you people wanted? Did you want to ruin possibly one of the best archives in the TI, CASIO, and hopefully HP community? I hope you didn't. If you did, then... then... I can't even begin to express my overall rage at you! You know... If Kevin leaves then I'll leave too! And I hope the good lot of you see what's happening... there's still chance to un-do what you've done... but you've almost lost one of the best RPG creators and overall one of the best BASIC programmers ever... and you might lose even more...

This my belief of how this forum operates. Perhaps this causes some problems from time to time, but I'd rather have that happen than to be oppressed from stating an opinion, some forums I know censor words such as "hack," and we do have a word filter for the really bad ones, but it's not a big deal if someone bypasses it.

"One is the right of all mankind to practice free speech. As I am a strong believer in this concept, along with the other members of this site, we have allowed many topics that would have been closed long ago on other forums to continue."

So what am I trying to say? I'm not really sure, other than I think that trying to make a forum too strict possibly may be detrimental. I haven't seen what happened in omnimaga, so I can't judge. I think that the owner of it is just overreacting from what I've seen though.

The general happenings are that recentally a "few" people (one of whom is out own Andy_J, let's give him a big hand!) have clearly broken the (in my opinion) not-so-strict rules for the forum...

While it does hurt that there are many people who disrespect Basic programmers, I think that Kevin's prorams a way above many and he shouldn't take all this yapping too seriously. The world is big and there will always be someone who doesn't like your stuff or perhaps is jelous of your achievements and they'll dis you. Maybe if Kevin is getting upset about these people he should just shut down the forum of only allow certain people (private board) but leave his archive. He's taking this a bit too seriously and I'm sorry for him. Yeah Kevin, don't bother with these ignorant people, your programs are very awesome so please keep them that way!

Oh, I also stand by allyn's view on free speech. Though, we will take appropriate action on flamers and people who only try to ruin the community. There's no place for such people on our site and we'll stand up for our community.

I too am a supporter of Omnimaga, and I really hope that he doesn't go. He has become a very good friend, with our talks on the forums and what not, and I have learned a few things from him. I am trying right now to tell him to not overreact, and ignore those that make stupid remarks. If you constantly get mad at that and don't just ignore them, then life will be very hate-filled. There are so many stupid people in this world...

Edit:

Ok, signed the petition, for Omnimaga to not go, and for Kevin to ignore the people that irritate him. Also, in support of this, I have posted a news article on my site.

Ever since Kevin spammed OUR forums (HA! he has rules against that on HIS forums, doesn't he?), I lost all respect for him. When I told a friend about what he did, he promptly deleted and blocked Kevin from his buddy list. I don't care HOW good of a BASIC programmer he is, he just doesn't have good social skills.

<my opinion>

I support Omnimaga. I support free speech. Kevin is overeacting, im my opinion, and its pissing me off, because I visit Omnimaga daily, and this is deterring my regular habit. You can exercise free speech where it is allowed. Dont sign up in a Forum by hitting "I agree" to a set of rules where it does not allow flaming. Thats absolutely stupid. I would not sign up if I knew I was gonna break the rules, even if it said "your signature has to say 'Kevin is God'". Honestly, i would simply not sign up. And I would shut my mouth about it. Who gives a flying #$%^ about a forum that you dont like? Keep quiet, and don't post about it. It is not your concern. Are they pirating programs, or are they just bashing you? (which is excercising free speech, so that should not be a problem) If it does not affect you, shut up and dont complain. Kevin has admin power at his forum, and I dont see him using it (with the exception of closing the forum down.) He needs to simply kick the flamers off, and not make a fuss. If he acts like he does now, he gives them too much attention. It makes a much more deep impact on "offenders" if they are silently removed from the forum, versus getting yelled at. I make the same policies at my forum. When you sign up to a forum, you agree to whatever the admin wants as demands. It's like that here, ticalc, MC, Calchaven, Cemetech, Omnimaga, etc. I don't sign up to every popular forum I see. And I dont complain about forums that dont involve me.

Kevin, stop overeacting, im getting worried. And all you others, stop whining about policies and freedom of speech. When you sign up for something, expect that right to be impaired. I find freedom of speech my most important right. Does that mean I yell "fire" in a movie theatre? Please use common sense.

Well greenorange, there always will be people who'll sign up just to flame or bash someone. We just have to not let them ruin our hobby and fun. If we were to get upset at thing people said about our site or us, we probably would have close some time ago. I and B don't allow flamers and people who can only post destructive criticism as there are no place for them in our community. I don't know why Kevin cares so much about some folks who don't like his games and come to flame him. I'd just ignore those people if they canno provide ideas how to improve the games.

As for you Andy, I'm staying out of this. I personally haven't seen Kevin spam here or anything like that but he did overreact and I wish he listens to us.

*sigh* Yes, Kevin did spam here. The one point I'd like to make before this is closed is the fact that people are being hypocritical. You can't expect others to follow your supposed moral high ground when you spam a forum. If everyone just cools off and realizes that this is just silly, then maybe cooler heads can prevail. Just think about it.
