I'm thinking of getting a TI-89, and wondering the exact differences between the Ti-89 and the TI-89 Titanium (Also read something about HWs?). I already know that the Titanium is a different shape an more RAM and all, I'm wondering about performance and whatnot. I'm mainly going to use this for games.

titanium has more flash, usb, an OS that TI seems to be developin, and a diffrent case. I think that is all that matters.

yeah, the titanium is better. I only have two complaints about it, and thats that it doesnt have a full size usb and that it looks disgusting compared to the old design.

But i have another suggestion, and that's that if youre going to use it mainly for games, why get a calculator? calculators are for math. Games are great, but is it really worth the 150 or so when you could get a nintendo ds for the same price? Something to think about...

Exactly, you can get a DS for the same price.

Yeah, it's like a cell phone. There are games for them sure, but you buy it because you need a cell phone, not because you want a portable game system. And you choose which phone you buy based on which one gets you the better plan and which has the best overall features, not based on which one has "better" games.

Edit
Yeah, but DS games are anywhere from 20 to 50 bucks per game, while the 89 games are free...

Though I agree, you should not get a calc for just games...

Guys, it's a lot more noticeable if you're playing a DS...

I said it was MAINLY for games, I'm going to use it for math, also. It's just that my Ti-84+ is getting all messed up, loading apps slower than it shoud (Friend has a Ti-83+ that's FASTER?), crashes sometimes, grayscale not working right (Maybe not nessesary, but a sign that something is wrong). I've tried a mem clear, new OS, removing the batteries overnight, called 'TI CARES' (They didn't really care), I think I just got a faulty calc or something.

Oh and I already have a DS, fun fun fun, I just don't like paying for a game and then have it turn out to be no fun at all and then I'm stuck with a $35 hole in my wallet.

I thought that Texas Instruments discontinued the production of the old TI-89 (sand replaced it with the Titanium in 2004)........

At anyrate, I just got the Titanum, but I'm already waiting for TI to release the next TI 89 model. The nice thing about TI is that they do not create a new model every two years. Palm Computing, Inc. (remember those PalmPilots?) had a bad habit of doing that. I bought a handheld right when it was released (back in '02) and two years later, it's hideously obsolete by both hardware features and software capabilities. It's really ridiculous.

If I buy a calculator from TI, I expect them to continue making that model for a minimum of 5 years or so before they replace it. So far, they have been good about doing this.

I bought my 89T in August 2004 and I couldn't be happier. It has plenty of archive space, has a fairly powerful built-in TI-BASIC (which got me into programming :), and is backed by a creative and active community :)

While I initially bought it for programming and homebrew projects, I now often use it instead of my TI-86 due to its nicer resolution and higher procesing speed.

No. You don't need an 89 until college, if then.

I higly doubt it. Maybe precalc, if you do geometry in summer school.
