I just got a TI-86 to replace the TI-84 I lost. I was wondering:

A) Is there a way to convert BASIC programs between TI-86's and TI-83/84? I noticed the Ti-BASIC is pretty much the same.

B) What's the best cable for my money? I have a computer that has both serial and USB (and parallel) so I'm thinking about getting a cheaper serial cable, but I want to know how much faster the usb one really is.

C) Anything cool you can do with an 86?

D) Does anyone remember my existence? :P

A) This is a program for BASIC conversion of 86 to 83+, but I don't know if it works the other way around. This may also be helpful, although I think it is more of a guide than any type of utility for doing this.

B) Does the 86 even have USB?

C) Don't know, I don't have one.

D) Yes.

C) Yes, try galaxian, infinite tower, and some others listed here.
D) No.

86s have memory mapped LCDs. This means they update at a constant framerate. They had grayscale long ago. The reason grayscale is harder on the 83/84 series is because the routines to copy to the lcd take so long to do.

answer to B)
the USB to linkport silverlink can be used with the 86 using the lastest version of ti-connect.

answer to C)
as 3FG mentioned, easier flickerless gs, but not as much space to store a lot of stuff. You'll have to learn ASM to do this though
